| “I have been in the cleaning business for more than 30 years,” says founder and proprietor of GoGreen, Wayne Miles, “but my green conscience took root in 2002. I like to think I had a conversion!” Wayne had been handling numerous cleaning contracts with state and private institutions without thinking about the toxic impact of his cleaning supplies on the environment and his employees. Then in 2001, he was called to a homeless shelter to settle complaints about fumes from the residents.
“I was shocked to see even my workers choking on fumes from the cleaning products and I knew then I had to ‘go green.”
"People equate smells like pine and bleach with cleanliness," says Wayne, “but both products are harmful.”
GoGreen store at 485 Atlantic Avenue opened in September 2006 with a range of environmentally safe, nontoxic cleaning products, including building supplies such as adhesives, caulk and nontoxic paints. Shortly thereafter, GoGreen’s cleaning services were Green Certified by the directors of the United States Green Building Council.
Founder’s Tip “Something as simple as a walk-off mat for people to wipe their feet on when they enter an office, home or store will immediately reduce the amount of dust and grit brought in,” he continues. “Use micro-fiber cloths to dust down shelves and furniture, as they reduce the need for chemical, petroleum-based cleaners.”
Be sure to visit us at 485 Atlantic Avenue (between Nevins and 3rd), Tuesday to Saturday, 12-7:00, Sunday, 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. For more information, contact Wayne Miles at wm@gogreeninc.com
